From scanning some other reviews, I gather there has been an issue with so-called "plants".
I am 100% not a plant. I bought the Victorio Ice Shaver a few months ago for myself. I really love shaved ice...not snocones, just the ice! And I was tired of using the blender to chop ice, which was a long and frustrating process. And the other counter-top ice makers on the market were far too expensive for what I needed.
I am a 4 ft tall woman (yes, I said 4 ft!) and also have manual dexterity problems, so first and foremost, I needed something that was easy to use. This product couldn't BE any easier to use!!!It's compact and fits easily on my counter. It uses regular ice cubes, so no special ice cube trays or squares necessary. My favorite feature is how easy it is to use. Simply load the ice cubes in, and press down on the round "cap" on the top (the part you open to add ice cubes). It's hard for me to do things such as pulling, pushing, or pressing down with my hands, but it's VERY EASY with this. It doesn't take a lot of force at all. I love that I can use this, and don't need anyone to help me.
As for the durability -- I bought the ice shaver at least 6 months ago, if not more. I've used it EVERY SINGLE DAY since then, and I have had NO problems whatsoever. The cap hasn't broken, the motor still works, etc.
I really love this product so much, that I purchased a 2nd machine as a gift for a friend. She has grandchildren numbering in the double digits, and really thought the kids would love something like this. I gave it to her this week, and she was thrilled.
If you are looking for something that's compact, easy to use, but also durable, you won't find anything better than this.

I orginally bought this for making frappuccinos and slushy drinks .This little thing works great for home style ice drinks.Of course it's not like the machines at starbucks or Your regular snow cones at the fair but it works really good!!I would recommand this product to anyone that likes slushy drinks or homemade frappuccinos.
